# ASC, ASA & AGC Jointly Adopt Prompt Pay Policy

Three leading construction trade associations have endorsed a model payment schedule that establishes deadlines for the flow of money throughout the construction process. The Joint Policy Statement on Prompt Pay has been adopted by the Associated Specialty Contractors (ASC), the American Subcontractors Association (ASA), and the Associated General Contractors (AGC). MCAA is a member of ASC.

The statement notes that "undue delays by owners, architects/engineers, general contractors, subcontractors and sub-subcontractors in processing amounts due ... or in making timely payments of these amounts impose hardships and improper financing burdens on the contractors and suppliers, and amount to extensions of credit by the contractors and suppliers to their respective higher tiers."

# American Colloid Co. Elects Hughes President

American Colloid Co., Skokie. III., has elected John Hughes president of the world-wide mining and processing firm. Hughes, who served as executive vice president for the past three years, replaces Roy H. Harris, who will continue as a director and consultant to the company.

Hughes joined American Colloid in 1965 and worked first as a laboratory technician before rising to vice president of international operations. He is a graduate chemist from the University of Wales and received his MBA degree from the University of Chicago.

American Colloid Co. reports annual sales in excess of $100 million and serves numerous industries including construction, for which it produces mortar plasticers and waterproofing materials for below-grade structures.

# MCA of DuPage County Celebrates 25th Year

The Mason Contractors Association of DuPage County, Ill., marked its 25th anniversary with a golf tournament and banquet attended by more than 250 members and guests at the Elmhurst Country Club, July 26.

Tony Luczynski, Elmhurst, III., was chairman of the festivities and was assisted by Jerry Forbes, Lone Star Industries, Inc., Des Plaines; Bob Perozynski. Holman Brick Co., Schaumburg, and Paul Schroeder, Mt. Prospect, executive secretary.

Al Wendt of Glen Ellyn is the current president of the association.

# Virginia Masonry Group Names New Officers

William A. Corbitt, Jr., Blue Stone Block, Inc., Roanoke, has been elected president of the Virginia Concrete Masonry Association.

Others elected were Richard D. Maley, Lone Star/Richmond Block, Richmond, vice president; Donald Hogston, Lightweight Block Co., Inc., Lynchburg, secretary/treasurer, and A. Harry Wagner, Richmond, executive secretary.

# Bricklayers Elect Joyce and Carlisle at Convention

The International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen (BAC), at its recently concluded 1985 Convention in Las Vegas, re-elected John T. Joyce as president and elected executive vice president L. Gerald Carlisle as secretary/treasurer to replace the retiring Ed Bellucci.

Joyce defeated past president Thomas F. Murphy while Carlisle defeated Francis "Buddy" Jones of Cleveland in the election. Others re-elected were: executive vice presidents James F. Richardson and Louis Weir. Thomas Uzzalino of Ridgefield Park, N.J., was elected to fill the office of executive vice president vacated by Carlisle.

# St. Louis Institute Names Fine Exec. Dir.

Harry A. Fine, for the past 22 years the head of a St. Louis area architectural firm. has been appointed executive director of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis. Most recently he was president of Stauder, Fine & Bildner, Inc., Architects, a firm with an established reputation in religious and institutional building design.

Fine received his architecture degree from Washington University in 1953 after service with the U.S. Army in Japan. His professional affiliations include membership in the St. Louis Chapter AIA and the Society for Marketing Professional Services.
