Get Ready for St. Pete Beach
February 27th to March 5th, 1986 at the TradeWinds Hotel for MCAA'S
36th International Educational Conference

With roughly two months to go before the start of MCAA's 36th Annual International Educational Conference, the program is being shaped and molded into one of the most informative presentations in the Association's history. With the main thrust targeted on education, the '86 Conference schedule calls for a dozen information-packed seminars and workshops to be presented between February 27th and March 5th at the luxurious new TradeWinds oceanside resort in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. Speakers with the finest credentials in their respective fields will conduct the various sessions aimed at improving the knowledge and professional skills of mason contractors throughout the United States and Canada. The keynote speaker at the Conference will be Jack Jackson, the dynamic board chairman of Jack Jackson & Associates, Oklahoma City, Okla.. whose forceful and humor-filled presentations have been heard by more than 650,000 people coast to coast. Other speakers who will join Jackson on the program include U.S. Senator Paula Hawkins and U.S. Congressman Bill Young of Florida, Mayor Paul Johnson of St. Petersburg Beach, and MCAA President W. C. "Bill" Dentinger, Jr.

The seminars will be presented over a three-day period, Thursday through Saturday, February 27-March 1. Topics to be covered are "Masonry Estimating For A Profit," "Brick Panels" and "Effective Marketing." "Masonry Estimating" will be presented starting on February 27th, by popular lecturer Jerry G. Pope, the well known construction consultant based in Greeley, Colorado. This one-and-a-half day course is based on the revised third edition of Pope's Masonry Estimating For A Profit Manual. This newest volume has been updated to include three new sections on Computer Use in Construction, Masonry Panel Systems, and Masonry Systems Marketing.

The course itself is divided into six parts which take you from the beginning of estimating procedures on through the surveys, bidding strategy, manpower allocations, and final reports and costs summaries.

Brick Panel Installation

If you want to learn more about brick panels, how to fabricate and install them, then the March 1st seminar on "Brick Panels" is for you. Lenny Pardue of L. C. Pardue Masonry, Portland, Oregon, will conduct this session. His Pacific Northwest firm has been highly successful in meeting the intricate design details and installation procedures of working with masonry panels for many years. This four-hour short-course deals with the basics and is amply illustrated with more than 180 slides of actual fabrication and installation of the panels. The tips and techniques utilized by Pardue Masonry in overcoming apparent obstacles of both materials and design will be fully reviewed.

The third seminar on "Effective Marketing for Today's Mason Contractor" will consist of a major assessment of the latest marketing strategies available to the modern-day
