The architectural firms of Fields & Silverman Architects, Los Angeles, Calif., and Harley Ellington Pierce Yee Associates, Southfield, Mich., have announced their merger. The new firm is called Fields & Silverman/HEPY.

Charles Costella, v.p. of Monte Costello & Co., Southfield, Mich., has been elected chairman of the Michigan Mason Contractors Association.

William F. Rebone, v.p. & g.m. of Rockwell International/Off-Highway Products & Driveline Division, Troy. Mich., has been elected 1986 president of the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association (CIMA).

Harvey J. Sorum, construction industry manager, Dow Chemical USA, Washington, DC, has been elected to the 21-member board of directors of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). Carl Deimling, v.p./ development for Stark Ceramics, Canton, Ohio, has been named president of Florida Clay Sales Co., a new distributorship in Cape Coral, Fla. He will continue to act as technical consultant to Stark.

Planning Research Corp., McLean. Va., has announced that Jerome M. Fischer, exec. v.p. and a director of the corporation, has decided to retire on December 31, 1985. Vermiculite Limited Inc., Beacon Falls, Conn., has announced the start-up of a second vermiculite expanding facility in Beacon Falls. The 15,000 sq. ft. plant operates under the name New England Vermiculite, Inc. UC Industries, Inc., Parsippany, N.J., manufacturer of Foamular extruded polystyrene foam insulation, has begun operation of its new Distribution Center in Tacoma.

The New Jersey State Conference of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen and the Building Contractors Association of New Jersey recently cosponsored their 2nd annual masonry awards competition. The winning building was the Carnegie Center Association in Princeton, with masonry by John B. Kelly, Inc. (MCAA). Pittsburgh Corning Corp. has appointed Thomas J. Pirosko manager of architectural products. Jung/Brannen Associates, Inc., Boston, Mass., announced that Jill Weber has been named an associate of the firm.
