List of 1988 Holidays
For business and personal planning, listed are the legal holidays for 1988, as established by State and United States statutes. Federal law provides that when a Federal legal holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday. Likewise, when a Federal holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed as a holiday. The state law provides that when a State legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be deemed a public holiday. The law also provides that when a legal holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed as a holiday by State employees and State government offices will be closed. County and municipal offices and employees are not covered by these provisions although local jurisdiction may opt to similarly close facilities. Banks and other private sector activities are not affected by this Friday observance provision. Contracts between labor and management are observed by holiday dates as established by agreement. JCB DEDICATES NEW FACILITY
JCB Inc. recently hosted a dedication ceremony for a new $2,000,000 expansion to their North American headquarters in White Marsh, Maryland.
The Honorable William Donald Schaefer, Governor of Maryland, and Sir Antony Acland, KCVO, KCMG, British Ambassador to the U.S.A., both attended the ceremony.
Roger K. Eve, the President of JCB Inc. said the S2M expansion was undertaken to accommodate the company's substantial growth. For the past four years, JCB Inc. has been the fastest growing backhoe loader manufacturer in North America. Sales volume has increased nine-fold since 1983, and exceeded $100M in 1986.
According to Mr. Eve, the expansion was completed in four phases and includes an 18,000 sq. ft. addition to the existing production shop which will incorporate the latest technology available in paint systems. Mr. Eve also added that the new construction will double the company's production capability as well as triple their parts inventory. Gordon L.. Smith & Sons, a local Baltimore construction firm, was the project contractor.
