In January, Emanual "Manny Rose" joined Columbia Machine Inc. as service manager. The Construction Specifications Institute has elected officers and directors for fiscal year 1990. They are: S. Steve Blumenthal, president: Robert W. Johnson, president-elect; W.L. Jacobsen, secretary and Dale C. Moll, treasurer. Three vice presidents/elected are: J. Gregg Borchelt, Shelton B. Israel and Thomas I. Young.
George C. Sells, chairman and founder of General Shale Products Corp., has retired. Midland-Moorhead Co., Inc., West Des Moines, Iowa brick manufacturer has been acquired by Glen-Gery Corp., Reading, Pa. Austin Commercial, Inc. has promoted Michael D. Scott to vice president. He will manage the firm's marketing and business development. Joseph F. Kuspan has been appointed vice president-distributor sales of R. D. Werner Co. Inc.
Gradall Acquires Liftall
The Gradall Company has acquired the Liftall rough terrain forklift product line from Lion Liftall International in Reno, Nevada.
Purchase of the Liftall manufacturing rights, inventory, existing trademarks and other production assets was completed on April 21, according to Barry L. Phillips, President of The Gradall Company. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The Liftall line currently includes six models of rough terrain, vertical mast forklifts. Three are popular with the outdoor construction and general industrial markets and have lift capacities ranging from 4,000 to 15,000 pounds. The other three are used to handle boats in marine storage facilities, with lift capacities from 7,500 to 20,000 pounds.
David S. Williams, Gradall's Vice President of Marketing and Sales, said the Liftall represents a natural extension of the company's product offering, which already includes 10 material handler models and six models of hydraulic excavators.
The Liftall machines will be sold worldwide by Gradall's Material Handling Group, a separate sales and marketing division created by Williams earlier this year to focus on the specific needs of the company's material handler customers. Ky Kuehling is Manager of Marketing and Sales for the Material Handler Group.
MIA Awards
Four Cal Poly Pomona juniors won awards from the Masonry Institute of America for their architectural designs of the Construction Technology Research Facility, a proposed expansion of the College of Environmental Design.
The winners are Brad Glassick of Corona, Alice LeDoux of Orange, Eddie Perez of Gardena, and Herta Fuchs of Redlands. All are members of Dr. Dariouchi Showghi's architectural design class.
This was the first such competition sponsored at Cal Poly by the Masonry Institute.
