INSURANCE
FOR CONTRACTORS
New Contractor Book
Clarifies Many Changes
A new, completely revised and updated Sixth Edition of Insurance For Contractors has just been published. The author, Walter T. Derk, uses 28 plain language examples to illustrate points otherwise buried deep in contractors' insurance policies and provides solid advice about what to do in specific circumstances.
Intended primarily for contractors, architects, engineers, construction managers, development owners, their counsel and risk management professionals, the guide concisely highlights reasons for all the changes and how they may commonly affect... or not affect... contractors. Among the subjects covered in largely non-technical terms are:
* Commercial
* Comprehensive General Liability Changes
* Occurrence Versus Claims-Made
* New Aggregate Limit Considerations
* Association Insurance Programs
* Coordinated Insurance Programs
* Certificates of Insurance
* Many other subjects

Cushwa Doubles Production
Victor Cushwa & Sons, Inc. has increased annual production of its CALVERT bricks to 70 million, more than double its previous manufacturing capacity.
To meet an increasing demand for CALVERT bricks, long recognized by architects and builders as the highest quality machine-moulded and hand-made brick in the U.S., Cushwa has renovated its exciting facilities and added new equipment.
"Our plant has been operating at capacity, turning out 30 million bricks a year, for a number of years," said company President David K. Cushwa, IV. "It is exciting to have the opportunity to meet the increasing needs of our loyal, longstanding customers, as well as those of customers turning to Cushwa brick for the first time. By expanding production, we should be able to cut deliveries from six months to six weeks."
The plant's major additions are a new Lingl tunnel kiln and drying system. The kiln's state-of-the-art monitoring and control system ensures high quality and consistent production of various colors, sizes and shapes of machine-moulded brick. The new kiln is capable of turning out 40 million brick a year-10 million more than the entire plant previously produced. Cushwa's new electronic drying system is completely automated; and it is large enough to keep up with Cushwa's continued growth.
