COVER

THE HAROLD Washington Library Center in Chicago, a massive ten story structure, which is the largest public library in North America, features a variety of "Sculpted" concrete elements that help carry out the building's neo-classical architectural design. The ornamental masonry work, which includes some 3,300 festoons, scrolls, swags, medallions and faces, was formed of cast stone manufactured by Terra Cotta and Cast Stone Manufacturing of Shawnee, Kansas. They were produced in molds made from plaster carvings of original sculptures by Raymond Kaskey. Architect for the project was the Sebus Group. Masonry contractor was Thorlief Larsen and Son, Itasca, Illinois.
