Building Costs
Up Slightly

THE AUSTIN Company's Index of Industrial Building Costs rose slightly in the first quarter of 1994, closing at 1152.98, an increase of .46 percent. At the end of the fourth quarter of 1993, the Index was logged at 1147.66. In 1993, the first quarter index closed at 1140.05.

In the Southeast, an increase in structural steel, copper wire, copper piping and air conditioning equipment was noted. The Midwest reported increases in concrete, structural steel, metal roof decking, raceways and copper wire. The West also noted an increase in the cost of copper wire.

The Austin Index is based on a quarterly pricing of a standard steel-framed manufacturing plant and its adjoining office building (1926 100).
