The 50th MCAA Annual Meeting was well aftended.
of Phoenix, Arizone with 130 block and third place to Glenn Houghton from Houghton Masonry in Blue Grass, lowa with 106 block. The next day crowds gathered again to watch the Masonry Skills Challenge Competition with 27 apprentices from around the country competing in a 4-hour competition.
While the exhibit floor was alive with action, the 37 architects attending the Second Annual Architect Masonry Symposium met with the 27 apprentices competing in the Skills Challenge to build a Habitat for Humanity home. This home was the first-ever all-masonry home built in Las Vegas for Habitat. Show attendees had an opportunity to view pictures of the Habitat construction displayed on the jumbo video-board in the lobby of the Rio exhibit hall taking place just miles away while the local media covered this wonderful, charitable event throughout the day.
Wrapping up the convention and MASONRY SHOW, 500 attendees gathered to roast outgoing President Donald Larsen and send a warm welcome to newly elected MCAA President Richard M. Johnston. During the dinner the MCAA paid tribute to their 50 years of excellence within the masonry industry. The crowd of 530 then attended a sold-out performance of Cirque Du Soleil's Mystere. An awe inspiring performance was the perfect ending to the four-day masonry showcase in Las Vegas.
