Eighteen apprentices from the U.S. and nine from Canada competed in the second annual Masonry Skills Challenge in Orlando, Florida on February 24, 2001. The Masonry Skills Challenge is an international competition of masonry apprentices in three skill levels: first year, second year, and third year. It is a showcase for skills training in the masonry industry and was designed to not only spotlight the industry's finest young bricklayers, but also to spotlight careers in masonry. Apprentices that competed had to have won a regional skills contest held earlier in the year by their local masonry association. The winners from this year's contest are as follows:
