Dominate National Masonry
Skills Competition

Representatives from North Carolina and Pennsylvania placed among the top three contestants in both the high school and post-secondary competitions of this year's 37th annual National Masonry Contest. In addition, first place in the high school division was awarded to Garrett Hood of Concord, NC., while first place in the post-secondary division went to Keith Parker of Media, PA.

It was an impressive scene as 51 young contestants from across the country, each of them winners of their own state or regional competition, worked against the clock and against each other to build their composite masonry projects.

The National Masonry Contest medalists celebrate their accomplishments on stage at the VICA National Skills and Leadership Conference awards ceremony. Technical committee representatives were also recognized.

For the sixth straight year, the contest was held at the H. Roe Bartle Hall in Kansas City, MO, June 27-29 in conjunction with the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) National Skills and Leadership Conference.

A $1,500 scholarship was awarded to the school of each first place winner by SpecMix, Inc. In addition, first place winners Hood and Parker each won a Bon Tool tool set, a Marshalltown Trowel tool set, a Dell laptop computer provided by the Skills-USA Masonry Technical committee, a drill from DeWalt, a 42"
