The 9th North American Masonry Conference in Clemson, S.C.
The Masonry Society (TMS) volunteers and staff have been busy making preparations for the upcoming Ninth North American Masonry Conference (9NAMC), which will be held at Clemson University from June 1-4, 2003. The 9NAMC will provide a technical forum for engineers, architects, contractors, producers, suppliers and others interested in masonry to exchange scientific, technical and engineering information relative to masonry. Technical papers for the conference are currently being peer reviewed, and accepted papers will be published in the proceedings and presented at the conference. A detailed conference program is posted on the conference website at www.masonrysociety.org/Conferences/9NAMCmain.html. Educational seminars are scheduled immediately before and after the conference. The topics include: 1) Design of Masonry Building Envelopes, 2) Strength Design of Masonry, 3) Masonry Quality Assurance, and 4) Structural Design of Concrete Masonry Using Computer Software.
The conference will be held at the Madren Conference Center and Inn on the Clemson University campus where a limited number of sleeping rooms have been made available at the adjacent James E. Martin Inn for $95 per night. There are 27 suites and 62 rooms, all offered at the same price. Make your room reservations on the Martin Inn website, http://virtual.clemson.edu/groups/madren/toc/martin (be sure to include the name of the conference), by calling either (888) 654-9020 (toll-free) or (864) 654-9020, or by e-mail to sharonf@clemson.edu. In all instances, be sure to register under the North American Masonry Conference room block.
The Masonry Society will also be holding its Spring 2003 business meetings immediately before the conference (May 30-June 1) at the Ramada Inn, also in Clemson. Sleeping rooms at the Ramada Inn can be reserved by calling (864) 654-7501 (you can't use the Ramada toll-free number to make this group reservation) at the TMS Room Block rate of $64 per night. The cut-off date for this hotel rate is May 15. The Ramada Inn can handle overflow accommodations for the 9NAMC and shuttle service from the Ramada Inn to the Madren Conference Center will be available once the North American Masonry Conference begins.
Clemson University is located in Clemson, S.C., and can be reached easily by car from the Greenville/Spartanburg Airport (GSP) in an hour, or from either Atlanta (ATL) or Charlotte, N.C. (CLT) in about 2-1/2 hours. Parking is free at both hotels, as well as at the conference center. Airport shuttle service from any of these airports to the Clemson hotel of your choice is also available by calling, toll-free, (800) 669-6463 or (864) 295-4098. Price varies depending on distance, time of day and the number of passengers in the shuttle.
