Cummins Receives Gold Awards for Innovation
The B3.3 engine from Cummins Inc. powered the Mecalac 12MTX Hybrid wheeled excavator to dual-award-winning success at the INTERMAT show in Paris, France. The machine won the Gold Award for Innovation as well as the Special Environmental Prize. The 68-horsepower (51 kW) rated, four-cylinder B3.3 engine drives an electrical generator and lithium-ion battery system to achieve 25 percent lower fuel consumption with reduced CO2 emissions and quieter operation. The 9-ton 12MTX Hybrid is a highly versatile machine with the ability to operate as excavator, loader, materials handler and other functions with a quick change of tool attachments. Based on the compact and agile 12MTX, the hybrid version is the latest innovative machine from the Mecalac Ahlmann Group, which specializes in equipment ideally suited for city center construction sites with limited operating space. Ewing's hardscape line includes interlocking and permeable pavers, garden and retaining wall blocks, and supporting products such as polymeric joint sand and geotextile fabric. AEM Program Recognizes Communications Excellence
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) announced winners at its annual "Measures of Success" marketing awards program, which is conducted under the auspices of AEM's Publications in Construction and Agriculture (PICA) subgroup Winning companies come from across the United States and Canada. The AEM-PICA awards recognize excellence in off-road equipment industry marketing communications and honor outstanding industry efforts as an educational example of "best practices." The awards also aim to promote to a wider audience the important role that marketing communications plays in a company's business success. A Special Award for Highest Ranked Entry Overall went to Sandvik of Smyrna, Ga., with Rhea + Kaiser of Naperville, Ill., for its entry in the direct mail single piece category (over $50 million in sales division). LEED 2009 to Include LEED Credits for Regional Environmental Priorities
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has released LEED regional credits as part of LEED 2009, the new version of the LEED Green Building Rating System. These LEED credits encourage that specific regional environmental priorities are addressed when it comes to the design, construction and operations of buildings in different geographic locations. With the help of USGBC's regional councils, chapters and affiliates, credits addressing six specific environmental issues within a region were identified from among the existing LEED credits.
