CONNECTORS, ANCHORS
AND FASTENERS

We are seeing a little daylight in the first quarter of 2011 as volume and sales dollars have both increased. We have pockets where some dealers are positive, due to an increase in quotes and jobs that were shelved in 2009 and 2010 that are finally ready to start. Overall, we have a mixed bag of confidence among customers, and we forecast a slight recovery in 2011.

Wire-Bond has broadened their product line as we invested in machinery to manufacture copper flashings and accessories, like termination bar and drip edge. Our goal is to be a one-stop shop for quality masonry accessories.

Masonry: What challenges have
you faced during the last year
regarding your products?

DiAngelus: One of the challenges that we faced over the last few years is material costs rising. What we here at Krando Metal have done is looked at the industry and foreseen where it's heading. By doing this, we have been able to stock our facility with material, so that we can give competitive pricing.

Product Watch
Mechanical Anchor

Hilti's Kwik Bolt 3 Mechanical Anchor is a stud anchor for uncracked concrete with an improved wedge design and higher strength material. The Kwik Bolt 3 has an ICC-ES report for concrete (ESR 2302) and grout-filled CMU (ESR1385), with performance values that exceed or meet its predecessor, the Kwik Bolt II.

The Kwik Bold 3 is available in sizes ranging from 1/4 to 1 inch in diameter and available in electrogalvanized carbon, hot dipped galvanized, SS 304 and SS 316. This satisfies a wide range of fastening applications in a variety of environments, including concrete, grout-filled CMU blocks and light-weight concrete over metal deck. The Kwik Bolt 3 also has the FM and UL listing.

To help save contractors time and money, the Hilti Kwik Bolt 3 incorporates unique design features that ease stud anchor installation, including a dog point impact section that helps prevent thread damage during installation, and a rounded end for easy anchor insertion, even around rebar. Shallow embedment depths, enabled by the improved wedge design, mean less drilling time. This helps save time and money on every job. IMAS
