Brick architectural features such as arches corbels curved elements and unit shapes
add aesthetic appeal to projects. These details are presented to inform participants of
current governing code and standards requirements. Examples that incorporate these
details are offered to ensure proper performance and stability on new projects. Of
prime importance is that these features exist on exterior wall systems. For functionality,
water penetration resistance and movement control are highlighted.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to develop brick masonry architectural effects on new projects
through the application of building code requirements.
- Participants will be able to create proper wall details for new projects that preform
under weathering exposures by including flashings and weepholes.
- Participants will be able to manage brick masonry movement on new projects by
knowing the expected growth of materials.
- Participants will be able to determine masonry wall ties and anchor spacing on new
projects by applying current design requirements.
