A prominent engineer and educator becomes a member of the bricklayers' union during the International Conference on Masonry Structural Systems in Austin, Texas. J. Neils Thompson, professor of Civil Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin and director of the University's Balcones Research Center, accepts the honorary membership from Joseph Anderson, president of the Texas State Conference on Bricklayers.

The home of Structural Clay Products Research Foundation, Geneva, III., has been sold to the Belden Wire Co. The Research Foundation, now the SCPI Research Dept., is housed in the new SCPI headquarters in McLean, Va. The Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee held their Annual "Snowball" on Friday evening, January 19th, at the Pfister Hotel. Richard N. Vandekieft, President, Safway Steel Products, has announced the appointment of Robert F. Gray to the position of Vice President of Marketing.

A Wisconsin lady has held a driver's license for 40 years but has never used it for driving. She has renewed it regularly because it was "good for identification."

In Ohio, a trooper placed a driver under arrest for operating a truck in mechanically unsafe conditions. The driver asked permission to drive it to the nearest junk yard and sell it. The trooper complied and witnessed the proceedings of the immediate sale.

An Australian law prohibits anyone in a moving motor vehicle from permitting any part of his body to extend beyond any external door or window, except when giving an authorized hand signal.
