(Continued from page 50) Type I cement and the admixture generally is less than the cost of Type III cement. Moreover, the admixture does not have to be used if low temperatures don't materialize, while if you go to Type III cement, you've got to use it, cold or not.
While this is not the kind of rigorous cost comparison we'd like to have, it does indicate that under appropriate circumstances, properly utilized quality admixtures will trim substantially more from costs than they add to them. The contractor also retains a good deal of flexibility; he can wait until virtually the last moment before deciding whether he needs the admixture or not.
These considerations together with the proven history of reputable accelerating admixtures have helped these products achieve their present status, acceptance, and growing usage.

INJECT VERMICULITE INTO WALLS
A new method of installing insulation makes it now possible to insulate existing masonry buildings, eliminating condensation and mold, and providing a 50 per cent reduction in heat transmission through the masonry walls. Using this new method, developed by the Zonolite Division, W. R. Grace & Co., skilled insulation applicators inject water repellent Zonolite Masonry Fill Insulation into the existing walls of concrete block, brick cavity or brick veneer which doubles their effectiveness in keeping heat in or out of the building. Prior to development of this method of installation, masonry insulation was restricted to use in new masonry building construction where it could be poured. Small, easily refillable holes are drilled into the exterior masonry joints near the top of the building (top left photo) to provide a passage for the new insulation in the unfilled cavity in a building of a major city public housing project. Tubes from a low-pressure mechanical blower are placed in each of the properly spaced holes (top right photo). Workmen easily load bags of the lightweight, free-flowing insulation into the mechanical blowers (bottom photo) for injection of this rotproof material into the walls of the building. Fire-resistant Zonolite Masonry Fill Insulation fills solidly and uniformly and supports its weight within the wall. This specialized form of vermiculite is an inert mineral that will not deteriorate.
