Midland Buys Can-Tex
The Ceramic Division of Can-Tex Industries, with plants in Redfield and Ottumwa, Iowa, and a sales office and distribution yard in West Des Moines, has been purchased by Midland Brick Co.
Midland Brick Co. was established to own and operate the Iowa facilities. Heading up Midland Brick Co. will be Sherwood E. Patek and William C. Forsythe, president and executive vice president, respectively, of Midland Brick Sales Co. and Midland Brick & Tile Co.
Tulsa Brick Sculpture
Artist/sculptor Mara Smith, creator of the huge brick murals on the exterior walls of the Loews Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Tex., and the new Hamilton Lakes Hotel in suburban Chicago, Ill., recently completed this 8' x 10' mural depicting a pioneer fireman with a steam fire engine for a fire station in Tulsa, Okla.
The mural was designed into the project by architects Imel & Graber. Doric Construction of Tulsa was the general contractor. The brick were supplied by Acme Brick Co.

A unique self-leveling device automatically levels the front chassis up to 13° so mast and operator remain vertical when working on uneven terrain to provide excellent operator and load safety. This feature keeps the load level in transport, too, whether turning on downhill slopes, crossing curbs or ditches, virtually eliminating damage liability from spilled loads and the manhours required for cleanup.
The FL-460 hydrostatic drive system provides precise control of propulsion when inching a load into place on a scaffolding. An extra margin of safety is added by the exclusive automatic oscillation brake which locks the articulated chassis, front-to-rear, to make the FL-460 more stable than rigid forklifts when placing loads on scaffolding.
