As a manufacturer of concrete masonry units and distributor of masonry products, my company has made every attempt to educate our marketplace on the cause and control of efflorescence.

My company has had a great deal of success in controlling efflorescence over the last three years by offering the Dry Block System. This system consists of a highly water repellent CMU additive and a highly water repellent mortar additive produced by Forrer Chemical Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since we began using Dry Block we have not had one complaint of efflorescence after the initial wash-down of the wall. Dry Block inhibits water penetration through both the CMU and mortar joint. If water can't penetrate, soluble salts can't form and, therefore, efflorescence is prevented.

My company does not distribute Dry Block. We purchase it like any other manufacturer of CMUs. We see Dry Block as a water repellent and efflorescence minimizing system for concrete masonry, brick mortar and stucco. As far as I know, Dry Block is the only product available to the masonry industry that imparts integral water repellency and minimizes efflorescence.

"I'll never do business with this company again!" Although most ex-customers probably don't state their feelings this dramatically, the fact remains that businesses lose customers every day. Recent research suggests that the leading reasons why people stop patronizing a business are: competition (9%), product dissatisfaction (14%). and an indifferent attitude on the part of an employee (68%).
