Projects located in Geauga, Cuyahoga, Summit, Portage, Medina, Lake and Lorain counties were eligible for entry. Each entry was judged on its creativity, innovation, detail, craftsmanship and overall appearance. The judges were Norm Farley, editor, Brick in Architecture magazine; Donna Rodgers, home editor, The Plain Dealer; and Jill Sell, home and garden real estate writer for local and national publications, including Cleveland Magazine. Their comments on the winning homes ranged from "sophisticated elegance", "subtle detailing" to the Medina home: "this is what you expect a brick home to look like."
Builders received plaques at a Brick Advantage Home Awards ceremony, with each plaque featuring a brick slab from a winning project. "The quality and streetscape of winning builders' projects were impressive," said Jim Tann, GLBC president. "The Great Lakes Brick Council is delighted to recognize the dynamic talents of Northeast Ohio home builders."
