Hilti Lifetime Service

North American contractors lose an estimated $400 million per year on power tool repair costs. Much of this cost is associated with wear and tear, which manufacturer warranties offer little or no protection for. Independent research found that when repairs are required due to wear and tear, the damage is usually more extensive, incurring extra expenditures in terms of parts, labor, transportation and employee downtime, which results in an increased total cost of power tool fleet ownership.

To counteract this, Hilti has launched its Lifetime Service, a comprehensive, simple-to-understand program that offers unparalleled service, major financial benefits and access to the latest technological advancements throughout a tool's lifetime. With Lifetime Service, Hilti stands behind its products and can provide total customer satisfaction to its tool owners and users.

During the initial no-cost period (up to two years, depending on the tool model), tools will be serviced quickly and reliably with no additional cost to contractors. During the lifetime repair cost limit, which begins after the no-cost period, the tool will have a maximum repair cost of no greater than 30 percent of the tool's list price. Once the tool is repaired, it receives an additional six months of no-cost service. The lifetime manufacturer's warranty covers the tool against manufacturer defects for the life of the tool (some limitations apply).

Lifetime Service includes the tool's transportation to and from a Hilti repair center, maintenance service, repair and replacement of all worn out or defective parts, functional testing and adjustment, and a safety regional manager for the eastern United States of Stone Container Corporation.

OSHA Offers New Guidelines to Help Reduce Motor Vehicle Crashes

Employers and employees who use motor vehicles for work purposes stand to benefit from new guidelines developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS).

"Motor vehicle crashes are costly to employers and employees," said OSHA Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor Jonathan L. Snare. "This new guidance document will show companies how safe-driving practices and safety-conscious behavior can help employees avoid tragedy."

The 32-page "Guidelines for Employers to Reduce Motor Vehicle Crashes" offers useful information to help employers design an effective driver safety program for their businesses, The guide features a 10-step program outlining what an employer can do to improve traffic safety performance and minimize the risk of motor vehicle crashes. The document also includes success stories from employers who have benefited from effective driver safety programs.

The guidelines include a detailed section on the causes of aggressive, distracted, drowsy and impaired driving, and tips for avoiding such behavior on the road. There is also a sample worksheet for calculating the costs of motor vehicle crashes to employers.

To develop the guidance, OSHA joined forces with NHTSA, the federal agency responsible for helping save lives, prevent injuries and reduce traffic-related health care and other economic costs, and NETS, a nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to traffic safety in the workplace.

The guide is available from OSHA's publications page on the Web, or can be ordered by calling the publications office at (202) 693-1888.
