Borchelt awarded C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award

Words: Gregg Borchelt, John SmithEach year, the Mason Contractors Association of America presents the C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award to an individual who has provided exemplary leadership in advancing the masonry industry. All of the individuals who have received this prestigious award have demonstrated a tireless dedication to our industry through years of volunteer support and hard work. They have helped to ensure that our industry remains vital for the nearly 500,000 people employed through masonry.

“It is rare that the MCAA gives the Leadman Award to people outside of the contractor community. In recent history this has only happened once,” said MCAA Chairman, John Smith. “But every once in a while, a true gem in our industry stands out and we must take that opportunity to honor the work they have done on our behalf.”

MCAA Chairman John Smith presented the 2014 C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award to Gregg Borchelt of the Brick Industry Association (BIA) at the MCAA Annual Meeting during the MCAA Convention at the World of Concrete/World of Masonry in Las Vegas.

J. Gregg Borchelt, PE, FASTM, FCSI, has served as President and Chief Executive Officer, and Vice President of Engineering and Research for the Brick Industry Association. An award-winning author of technical papers on masonry, Borchelt has participated in masonry conferences throughout the world.

Prior to coming to the BIA, Borchelt ran a masonry promotion organization in Texas. He has also chaired ASTM Subcommittee C 15.02 on Brick and Clay Tile. He holds degrees in civil and structural engineering from Purdue University.

“Gregg has given so much more than the industry has provided him. He has dedicated his life to the advancement and progress of our industry, and he has served our industry with honor and integrity,” said Smith.
