Report of the MCAA Workforce Development Committee

Words: Adam Masterson

Skills USA

In June 2014 the MCAA became a full fledged supporter of Skills USA again. We had been supporting their efforts during the recession at a reduced rate and have progressively been working our way back to full status. We were glad to be back at full strength and sent Terry Ruppel to help with the program. In addition, Mark Kemp, MCAA Chairman gave the presentation to the annual luncheon.

Workforce Development Grant

The MCAA received an NCMA Grant for $50,000 to help expand the NCCER sponsorship program. The MCAA is currently evaluating expanding the TN program to TX and CA.

NCCER Sponsorship Program

The MCAA has fully rolled out the program this fall. We currently have 17 schools and 19 instructors in our sponsorship program. They represent approximatley1900 students from TN in a variety of different trades.

In addition, the MCAA rolled out our new Newsletter “The Source” for our instructors and potential instructors. The newsletter has helpful hints on teaching, trade related material and state curriculum requirements

This winter we are rolling out our paper reduction program for instructors. This will help them in the process of eliminating excess paper and securing that paper required by NCCER. The MCAA will provide each instructor with a USB drive that will have all their necessary paperwork on file. MCAA will have the original copy in our office.

The Foreman Development Program

The foreman development program will be held again in Las Vegas. We are looking to re-develop this and add and delete some new sections one section in particular we are looking to add will be on the use of technology.
