Smith awarded C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award

Words: Mark Kemp, John SmithEach year, the Mason Contractors Association of America presents the C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award to an individual who has provided exemplary leadership in advancing the masonry industry. All of the individuals who have received this prestigious award have demonstrated a tireless dedication to our industry through years of volunteer support and hard work. They have helped to ensure that our industry remains vital for the nearly 500,000 people employed through masonry.

MCAA Chairman Mark Kemp presented the 2015 C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award to John Smith, Jr. of John J. Smith Masonry Company in St. Louis at the MCAA Annual Meeting during the MCAA Convention at the World of Concrete/World of Masonry in Las Vegas on Thursday, February 5, 2015. “The individual that we honor here today has served and been a leader in the masonry industry for several years,” said Kemp.

John Smith, Jr. is a 3rd generation bricklayer and a 2nd generation mason contractor, and has been involved with all aspects of the industry on both a local and national level.

John’s leadership, enthusiasm, commitment and relentless dedication to the industry has made John J. Smith Masonry not only a dominant mason contractor, but also an expert in the industry for architects, engineers and general contractors to feed off of in the pursuit of great masonry structures.

John was a key part of the wall bracing policy developed by the MCAA, now a nationally recognized safety standard. He has served as the Region E Vice President, Marketing Committee Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President, and Chairman of the Mason Contractors Association of America.

“It is my honor and pleasure to present the C. DeWitt Brown Leadman Award to John Smith, Jr.” said Kemp.
