Acme Brick honors Michie with 2014 President’s Award

Words: Ed Watson, David MichieAcme Brick Co. annually recognizes an outstanding employee with the company’s coveted President’s Award. This award is presented to an employee whose efforts reflect the type of performance that has made the company successful over its 123-year history. Specifically, candidates must demonstrate measured improvement in their area of responsibility and extraordinary service to Acme and its customers. David Michie, Acme’s general production manager, is the recipient of the company’s 2014 President’s Award.

“I respectfully submit David Michie as my nominee for the 2015 President’s Award,” said Ed Watson, Acme’s vice president of production. “I believe David is very deserving of the award, not only for his contributions toward creating value for our company in 2014, but also for his effort to do so throughout his 29-year career.

“David works diligently to exceed our customer’s expectations by setting a high standard for quality for our brick production and for quality of service from our managers, sales coordinators/dispatchers and drivers. I believe David’s honesty and integrity guide him through his personal and professional life. His decision-making process includes always striving to do the right thing, even if doing so may add cost or time to a critical project. He is very good at engaging sales representatives and managers in two-way conversation in order to understand what issues may exist at a plant that need to be corrected, or what is needed in the way of new products for the market.

“David encourages his associates to take appropriate risks, think critically and make effective decisions regarding plant operations. He drives innovation and takes initiatives to achieve key results by stretching the brick plants to do things beyond their normal comfort zone. David is committed to creating value for his customer, company and community by working to ensure we provide quality products and service to our customers. He is also involved in his local community as a volunteer with his church’s Favors for Neighbors program and youth mission trips each year. I personally know of no other individual in our company who has had this magnitude of impact on all key results over the past few years.”
