Words: Jameel Ervin, Tom Vacala, Donnie Williams

The MCAA held its Annual Meeting from February 7th — 10th, 2021 at the South Seas Island Resort in Captiva, Florida with over 140 attendees. The meeting was loaded with new content created by the Mason Contractors Association of America including the successful debuts of the new Foreman Development Course and MASONRY STRONG LIVE streaming event.

The brand-new Foreman Development Course, the first of a new two-part program, debuted on Sunday, February 7th. The course is designed to help standout employees successfully make their way upward in organizations. This new version places an emphasis on the roles, responsibilities, and skills necessary for a modern foreman to be successful. Developed by the industry and taught by masonry leaders Jameel Ervin, Tom Vacala, and Donnie Williams, attendees left with tips and tricks of the trade taught by the best.

A sneak-peek of the new MASONRY STRONG initiative’s website kicked off Monday’s Board Meeting. As a focal point for the campaign, the site is designed to highlight features and benefits of masonry while dispelling misinformation from competing wall systems. Audiences for the site include Building Owners, Architects, General Contractors, and the Workforce.

MASONRY STRONG LIVE, the first-of-its-kind in-person and streaming educational event, was filmed on location and broadcast Wednesday, February 10th at 9AM Eastern on MCAA Facebook and YouTube channels. The event received over 56,000 views in the first seven days of premiering.

Related to the MASONRY STRONG initiative, The Masonry Foundation has chosen to contribute $20,000 in unallocated grant dollars from the previous year toward the campaign. Funds will be used to augment the efforts of the MASONRY STRONG website and to develop a scholarship program for architecture students.
