# Milwaukee MCA Elects Brunner President
The Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee has elected John Brunner of Elmer Brunner & Sons president for 1974.

Other newly elected officers are Larry Gruman, Gruman Construction Co., 1st vice president; Walter Kulinski, W.E. Kulinski Tuckpointing, 2nd vice president; Gerry Dufour, Ma-Con Construction Corp., secretary, and James Luterbach, James Luterbach Construction Co., treasurer.

All serve as directors of the association in addition to John W. Serdahely, Jos. P. Jensen Co., and Edward Berg, Berg Construction Co.

PIERSON CARRUTHERS

The Chicago-based architectural firm of Perkins & Will has announced the election of Kenneth D.B. Carruthers and Paul S. Pierson as vice presidents. Before joining the firm Carruthers was vice president of Doxiadis Associates, Washington, D. C., and Pierson was director of the division of design and construction for the American Hospital Association.

Thomas H. Knorr has been appointed production control manager of Kochring Company's PCM Division, Port Washington, Wis. The National Constructors Association has announced that Robert P. McCormick has joined its staff as vice president/ labor relations in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Thomas C. Stevens, former president of the College of Racine (Wis.), has been named corporate director of manpower resources for JI Case Co., Racine.


# Construction Contracts at Record $100 Billion
Contracts for future construction projects slipped back to $6,132,566, 000 in December, 5% below the level a year earlier, reports the F. W. Dodge Division of McGraw-Hill Information Systems Co., New York, N.Y.

Despite the weakness of the closing month, last year's total contract value reached a record $100.1 billion for new construction work of all kinds, up 10% from the 1972 amount.


# Plan Formation of New Masonry Organization
Thirty-five North Carolina mason contractors met recently in Burlington to plan formation of a statewide association with the purpose of promoting masonry construction.

Those in attendance represented all nine areas between Brevard and Greenville. Strong support came out for apprentice training and for an education program for member companies in estimating and business management.

A bylaws and nominating committee was named to meet in Burlington February 22-23 to prepare bylaws and a slate of nominees for presentation to the membership at a subsequent meeting to be announced.

# McGraw-Hill Expands
McGraw-Hill Information Systems Co., New York City, has reached an agreement in principle with Usine Publications Co. in France for the issuing of an annual Sweet's Architectural Catalog File on building products in French starting in 1975.

The joint venture will mark the first overseas expansion of the American company, which provides Dodge news services on construction projects as well as Sweet's information services on building products. It has published a Sweet's Canadian Construction Catalogue File since 1966.

# Corporate Name Change
Lubin Associates, Inc., Chicago- based insurance firm, has announced the acquisition of Titan Agencies and the formation of a new company, Brokerage Resources, Inc., as a result of the merger.

# In Memoriam
WILLIAM F. HUMMEL

William F. Hummel, a veteran of the masonry industry who had held various posts with MCAA, died on December 31, 1973, at his home in Cincinnati. He was 68.

Mr. Hummel's career began in 1925 with the David Hummel Building Co. He retired in December, 1970 as board chairman after 45 years of service.

He generously contributed to the industry as vice president of Allied Construction Industries and as president of the Mason Contractors Association of Cincinnati and the Unit Masonry Association.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise; two daughters, Mrs. Carolyne Staff, Saratoga, Calif., and Mrs. Harriet Mitchell, Pittsburgh, Pa., and three grandchildren.
