Bricklayers Pension Fund Reports Growth
The entire Los Angeles area is now participating in the Bricklayers and Trowel Trades International Pension Fund.
Los Angeles area bricklayers have negotiated an agreement, effective in May, with the California Conference of Mason Contractor Associations to participate in the International Fund.
The five Locals involved in the new agreement have a total of 3,700 members. They are Local 2, Los Angeles; Local 3, Bakersfield; Local 13, Long Beach; Local 20, San Bernardino; and Local 22, Santa Ana.
Los Angeles tile-setters Local 18- the first California local to join the International Fund-has been participating one year.
The five newly participating locals have all operated their own pension programs since 1957. They have joined the International Fund to supplement their existing programs, Fund administrator George Griesbauer explained. Locals are able to maintain their own funds while enjoying the increased benefits afforded by the International Fund.
Welcoming the new locals into the Fund, IU and Fund Secretary John T. Joyce commented, "The trustees are very pleased with the locals' enthusiastic response to the Fund. It has grown quite rapidly. We originally had anticipated that by the end of the first year, we would have approximately thirty locals with 5,000 members covered by the Fund. Now that the Fund has nearly reached its second anniversary, it encompasses 108 locals and 16,000 members. The trustees look forward to the Fund's continued growth."
Mr. Griesbauer announced that an audio-visual program explaining the Fund and outlining its benefits will soon be available to local unions for presentation to their members. Any local desiring information regarding the Fund may contact the Bricklayers and Trowel Trades International Pension Fund Office, 815 Fifteenth Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20005.
