The spring catalog of more than 150 ACI publications is now available. The latest listing of standards, committee reports, monographs, symposium volumes, bibliographies, and special and miscellaneous publications is included.

"Introduction to Early American Masonry," National Trust for Historic Preservation, 740 Jackson Place, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006. $4.50.

Covering stone, brick, mortar and plaster, this is a new publication issued by the National Trust as part of Columbia University's series on the technology of early American buildings.

Architect Harley J. McKee, FAIA, has compiled in 92 pages a summary of his Columbia University lectures on American masonry. Drawings, illustrations and photos make the publication a most unusual, interesting and educational document on masonry construction.

"Handbook of Concrete Engineering." Edited by Mark Fintel. 780 pages plus index; 1015 illustrations; 8½ x 11; $42.50. Publication date: October, 1974. Van Nostrand Reinhold Co., 450 W. 33rd St., New York, N.Y. 10001.

For the first time, the fundamentals of planning, design and construction of reinforced concrete structures are thoroughly detailed in one authoritative, up-to-date handbook. Presenting the combined know-how of 28 leading professionals representing the various disciplines of concrete engineering, it covers, in addition to the traditional knowledge, all significant developments that have occurred within the last decade. Such topics as ultra-high-rise reinforced concrete buildings, computer applications and ultimate strength design are fully explored.

The timeliness of the Handbook is reinforced by its adherence to the 1971 ACI Code. It discusses such relatively new areas as earthquake resistance, ductility, computer software, tubular structures and large panel structures. A considerable number of design examples have been incorporated into the text, enabling an engineer to familiarize himself with any subject in concrete engineering in order to design simple structures without additional design aids.

"Metric System Guide/Volume II," J.J. Keller & Associates, Inc., 145 W. Wisconsin Ave., Neenah, Wis. 54956. $59.00

This is the second volume in a five-volume series on the metric system of measure, dealing with legislation and regulatory controls both at the federal and state levels.

The executive binder edition presents all proposals and/or enactments concerning metrication in America with controlling regulations. Featured is full information on all major standards organizations, both national and international, as well as background, graphs and charts. Included is detailed information on educational activities by state, weights and measures statistics, and a comprehensive glossary.

Cement Trash Containers Feature Beauty, Utility

The new concrete trash receptacles recently introduced by Hanson Concrete Products, Milpitas, Calif., bring beauty, utility and low maintenance to trash and litter pickup. The exposed aggregate blends with any environment and adds an eye-pleasing texture. Big, durable and heavy (600-800 lbs.), the receptacles discourage theft and vandalism.
