'82 MCAA Masonry Conference Highlights

THURSDAY, February 11, 1982

The annual MCAA Golf and Tennis Tournaments will be held. Special registration will be required; tournament details are forthcoming. Non-players will have the opportunity to visit fabulous Walt Disney World and other Central Florida attractions.


FRIDAY, February 12, 1982

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. for the Pre-Conference Seminar only. Note: Special registration will be required and is not part of the regular Conference registration. Please see page 8 of this issue for the registration form on the "Basic Masonry Estimating" Seminar.

The seminar will feature two presentations the "Basic Estimating Course," starting at 8:30 a.m., and "Anchorage Systems for Masonry Panels," beginning at 9:00 a.m. Both presentations will run until 4:30 p.m.

"Basic Estimating," a two-part course which will conclude on the following day, will be conducted by well-known MCAA lecturer Jerry Pope and the MCAA Education Committee. It is a fundamental estimating course designed to assist in the training of beginning masonry estimators in their daily responsibilities. Mr. Pope's manual used in conjunction with the course is organized as an official reference guide with forms for the small mason contractor's daily use. The objectives of the course are to acquaint the trainee with: Organization of bidding documents; proper use and understanding of those documents; fundamental drafting procedures and methods; basic quantity survey methods and procedures; masonry takeoff methods and checklists; checking procedures and methods; standardized estimate formats, and recommended example estimates.

"Anchorage Systems for Masonry Panels" will be under the direction of the MCAA Masonry Panel Committee and the MCAA Education Committee. George Hansen, Structural Engineer with the Colorado Masonry Institute, will serve as moderator. This is a one-day technical session designed to present to the established mason contractor suggestions on anchorage systems for all types of masonry panels, be they granite, marble, limestone, brick, etc.


SATURDAY, February 13, 1982

The entire morning will be devoted to MCAA Committee Meetings from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon- and Part II of the "Basic Masonry Estimating" Seminar-from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

MCAA Regional Vice Presidents' Conferences will begin at 1:15 p.m., followed by the MCAA Executive Board meeting at 4:00 p.m. The Board meeting will run until Association business has been concluded. Please note that the MCAA Committee Meetings and Regional Vice Presidents' Conferences are open to all MCAA Members who are sincerely urged to attend those sessions having special interest for them. The MCAA Registration Desk will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.


SUNDAY, February 14, 1982

An Industry Promotion Meeting will be conducted from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This meeting is open to all MCAA Members and will be devoted to discussions of current promotional programs being conducted by the International Masonry Institute and the various local and regional masonry promotion groups throughout the U.S. and Canada.
