New Albany, Indiana
According to Stephen Terry, masonry instructor, the Prosser School of Technology's masonry program is about 25-years-old. Students in the school consist of high school juniors and seniors as well as post-secondary students. Each year, the masonry class builds a house consisting of approximately 18,000 brick and an all masonry fireplace. Last year's home sold for $156,000. Students also compete in the state VICA competition and Prosser students have been the state champions for the last three years.

Hitchens, the program includes hands-on experiences emphasizing topics such as preparing and mixing mortar, construction practices, blueprint reading, estimating and extensive practice laying brick and block. Recent "live work" projects have included building a storage building for a local elementary school, a brick veneer front for a local church and interior block walls to remodel the college.
Franklin, Kentucky
Masonry instructor William McCormick reports that his school, Franklin-Simpson High School, currently has 60 students. The program has been in existence for 23 years and Mr. McCormick has been the instructor for over 20 of them. During this time, the masonry class has completed many projects around the school including baseball and softball dugouts and the new central office for the school. Students in the program compete in masonry competitions and over the years four of them have competed in the national Skills USA competition.
Severn, Maryland
According to Curtis Hoover, masonry instructor, the masonry program at the Center of Applied Technology - North is one of the largest in Maryland. The three-year program consists of 1,270 hours of theory and hands-on training. CAT-N has partnerships with the Masonry Institute of Maryland and Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #1 of MD, DC and VA and all students completing the program have jobs waiting for them upon graduation. Every year the program does a "live work" project. Over the last four years, the students have completed two storage buildings for two of the feeder schools, baseball dugouts for another feeder school and a 28' x 40' split-face storage building for a local little league.
Rolla, Missouri
The masonry program at Rolla Technical Institute is a two-year apprenticeship for secondary or post-secondary students. The instructor, Harold Martin, reports that the course includes instruction in safety procedures; make-up, properties, uses and sizes of all masonry units; use of tools and equipment; uses of anchors, ties and reinforcement;
