MVMA Announces 3rd Annual Design Awards
The Masonry Veneer Manufacturers Association (MVMA) announced its third-annual MVMA Design Awards, a program created to recognize the work of industry professionals who are setting trends by featuring manufactured stone veneer in their projects.

"Our goal is to recognize leaders in the manufactured stone industry by highlighting their design successes," says Mike Fischer, MVMA general manager. "This year's theme of Natural Beauty Fashioned in Stone aims to showcase the beauty and authenticity of manufactured stone."

Entering is free, and all entries should be submitted online at www.Masonry Veneer Design Awards.com by Dec. 31, 2011. Submissions require high-resolution images of the completed project. An independent judging panel will announce winners at the MVMA Design Awards in February 2012.

Nissan Forklift Awards Top Dealer Sales Professionals
Nissan Forklift Corp. awarded a Caribbean cruise to its top dealers' sales professionals in both new forklifts and aftermarket parts in its "Pack for the Sun" event.

More than 40 sales professionals joined Nissan Forklift personnel on a five-day cruise to the Caribbean in appreciation of their continued commitment to growing the Nissan Forklift brand.

To qualify for the trip, dealer sales managers and sales representatives were entered into three contest groups determined by their dealership's market size in units. Parts managers and aftermarket personnel were entered into three contest groups determined by market sizes in total parts sold. The highest number of points determined the top sales representative in each contest group. The trip took place in mid-April.

Workers Failing to Wear Safety Equipment a Concern
In a survey released by Kimberly Clark Professional, 89 percent of safety professionals said they had observed workers not wearing safety equipment when they should have been. Twenty-nine percent said this had happened on numerous occasions.

"This high rate of noncompliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols presents a serious threat to worker health and safety," says Gina Tsiropoulos, manufacturing segment marketing manager for Kimberly-Clark Professional. "While the reasons for noncompliance are varied, the threat to workers is clear-cut. Without the proper use of PPE, they are at risk of serious injury or even death."

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requires the use of PPE to reduce employee exposure to hazards when engineering and administrative controls are not feasible or effective. Yet, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show that of the workers who sustained a variety of on-the-job injuries, the vast majority were not wearing PPE. Seventy-eight percent of respondents said workplace accidents and injuries were the concerns most likely to keep them up at night.

"Worker compliance with safety protocols" was cited as the top workplace safety issue. Twenty-eight percent of respondents chose this, while 21 percent selected "fewer workers."
